This tutorial is an overall guide for
Mining. It has been designed by the Mining Cult, whose discord server can be found here.
Basic Information
There are some certain topics that are necessary to get to grips with mining. Many, if not all, of the methods in this guide require Heart of the Mountain VII. It is highly recommended to do commissions until reaching this milestone.
Breaking Speed
There are 20 Minecraft ticks per second (1 tick = 0.05s).
Blocks break in terms of ticks; how many ticks it takes to break a block is determined by your ⸕ Mining Speed and the "Block Strength" (see Breaking Power) of the block you are breaking. The formula for how many ticks you break a block is
Ticks round: 8.499999 ticks breaks at the same speed as 8 ticks, as does 8.33333333. Once you cross that threshold, you will be able to break the block in 1 tick, or 0.05s, faster. Mining a block 1 tick faster is equal to roughly 150 fortune (another ~1.5m per hour). The formula for Mining Speed needed to cross a tick threshold is
If you have the mining speed to mine a block in less than 1 tick, the block will be instamined. However, if you do not have the mining speed to break a block in less than a tick, you will mine the block in 4 ticks instead of insta-mining.
- Maximum possible consistent tick speeds
- Jade: 8348 Speed (11 Tick)
- Ruby: 9201 Speed (7/8 Tick)
- Blue Wool Mithril: 6923 Speed (6 Tick)
- Blocks that can be instamined with Mining Speed Boost
- Mines of Divan Gold: 36,000 Speed
- Prismarine Mithril: 48,000 Speed (In Magma Fields with Bal Pet)
- Gray Mithril: 30,000 Speed
- Obsidian: 30,000 Speed
Block Efficiency
Block efficiency is how much downtime you take in-between mining. This can include moving your crosshair to your next block or ether warping to the next platform.
The higher your block efficiency is, the more gemstones you can mine in an hour. To get better block efficiency you just have to keep practicing to get faster. Your ping or the server's TPS can affect how hard it is to have high efficiency.
Video
A video displaying high block efficiency can be seen below.
Waypoints
Waypoints are crucial to efficiently and effectively mining. They mark locations to easily see where you need to go to mine. There are 3 main types of waypoint, and you can differentiate them as follows. You can use https://soopy.dev/waypointconvert to convert between waypoint formats.
SkyTils
- Waypoint
There are 2 variations of the import format:
- <Skytils-Waypoint-Data>(V1):H4sIAAAAAAAC/51Y225bNxD8FeM8CwW5F (Newer)
- eyJjYXRlZ29yaWVzIjogW3sibmFtZSI6ICJBbWJlciBEaWxsbyIsIndheXBv (Older)
- Import
Copy the import string then in-game, do /st → Exit Waypoints → Share → Import from clipboard
SoopyAddons
- Waypoint
There are 2 variations of the import format:
- AQAAAJ0AATFDTwAAQxsAAEPsgAAAfwAAAAABMQABMkNMAABDHwAAQ+0AAAB/AAAAAAEyAAEzQ0sAAEMiAA (Newer)
- [{"x":208,"y":170,"z":518,"r":0,"g":1,"b":0,"options":{"name":1}},{"x":207,"y":173,"z":520,"r":0,"g":1,"b":0,"options":{"name":2}} (Older)
- Import
Copy the import string then in-game, do /loadwaypoints → /converttoorder → /clear waypoints. If you do not want ordered waypoints just do /loadwaypoints
Coleweight
- Waypoint
Coleweight uses both Soopy import formats as well as the older skytils format.
- AQAAAJ0AATFDTwAAQxsAAEPsgAAAfwAAAAABMQABMkNMAABDHwAAQ+0AAAB/AAAAAAEyAAEzQ0sAAEMiAA (Newer Soopy)
- [{"x":208,"y":170,"z":518,"r":0,"g":1,"b":0,"options":{"name":1}},{"x":207,"y":173,"z":520,"r":0,"g":1,"b":0,"options":{"name":2}} (Older Soopy)
- eyJjYXRlZ29yaWVzIjogW3sibmFtZSI6ICJBbWJlciBEaWxsbyIsIndheXBv (Older SkyTils)
- Import
Copy the import string then in-game, do /cw ordered load. If you do not want ordered waypoints, do /cw waypoint load
- Additional Commands
/cw ordered delete <#>, /cw ordered add <#>, /cw ordered unload and /cw waypoints delete <#>. For any other commands do /cw help.

Pickonimbus 2000 is highly recommended for people who just started mining Gemstones, although it cannot break Topaz (unless you have the Rhinestone Infusion perk from the Diamond Essence Shop) or Jasper.
Mithril Drill SX-R226 and
Mithril Drill SX-R326 are not recommended for mining because of their high cost despite the inability to mine most types of gemstones, and their inferiority to the
Titanium Drill DR-X355. However, their increased ᠅ Mithril Powder gain can be useful in deficit.- The
Ruby Drill TX-15 line should be made even if it won’t be used as a mining tool, because of the eventual +20% ᠅ Gemstone Powder buff given by the
Jasper Drill X.

Early Game Techniques
These methods are for early-game players to reach Heart of the Mountain VII.
Reaching Dwarven Mines
Reaching
Mining 12 is key in early game progression, as it allows the player access to the Dwarven Mines.
Requirements
Method
After creating a profile, you should start farming wheat in the hub until reaching
Farming V, which is the requirement to access the Mushroom Desert. From here, buy a Gold Ingot from the
Mine Merchant and
2x Sticks from the Lumber Merchant, and craft a Golden Shovel, which you should then enchant with Efficiency II at the enchantment table next to the Librarian.
Once you have done so, go to the Mushroom Desert and mine sand until you reach
Mining XII.
Craft your sand into enchanted sand, and sell both the sand and wheat to the Bazaar. With this money, buy
30x Enchanted Redstone, which will cost 28,278 coins, and give it to Rhys to access the Dwarven Mines.
Crystal Hollows Techniques
All of the following methods take place in the ⏣ Crystal Hollows.
Crystal Hollows Mithril
Crystal Hollows mithril mining is a general purpose mining method that utilizes mithril veins generated in the crystal hollows. Mithril blocks in these veins give around 2x the XP of the mithril blocks in the Dwarven Mines and because of that, its very good for obtaining mining XP.
Requirements
- Maxed Armor of Divan
Golden Dragon Pet (For max XP rates, share a second G-Drag)- Maxed
Divan's Drill (Refined and
Blue Cheese Goblin Omelette) - Other mining essentials like equipment and accessories etc.
A minimum of 5334 ⸕ Mining Speed is required to instamine green mithril.
HotM Tree
The Heart of the Mountain tree used for crystal hollows mithril mining requires the following powder:
- 9.8m Mithril Powder
- 11.05m/17.35m Gemstone Powder
The Mithril Powder is needed to max
Efficient Miner,
Seasoned Mineman,
Mining Fortune 1 and
Mining Speed 1, whilst the Gemstone Powder is required to max
Mining Fortune 2 and
Mining Speed 2, mining speed and
Powder Buff. To set up lobbies quicker you could max out
Mole, which costs another 6.3m gemstone powder.
Method
What makes this method good is being able to level up pets insanely quickly and the most profitable one being the
Golden Dragon Pet, which will gain around 2.5 levels per hour at good efficiency.
You should be digging 2-3 blocks into the vein then activate
Pickobulus to use the ability efficiently.
Magma Fields Mithril
Magma fields mithril mining is a form of mining which utilises the Bal Pet's Made of Lava perk, which buffs mining speed to a point where you are able to insta-mine the prismarine mithril blocks. Unlike normal crystal hollows mithril mining, which can generate around 5m mining XP/h, magma fields mithril can generate up to 8m mining XP/hour without any event buffs, which is a noticeable increase.
It should also be noted that this method is not good for pet levelling.
Requirements
- Armor of Divan (Jaded, Perfect Gems,
Recomb'd)
Divan's Drill (Refined,
Amber-Polished Drill Engine,
Blue Cheese Goblin Omelette, Efficiency X)- [Lv100]
LEGENDARY Bal Pet - [Lv100]
LEGENDARY Silverfish Pet (When not using MSB, have Silverfish out for more MW, and swap to a Bal when using MSB) - 2 Auto Pet Rules + Fishing Rod
The rules for the autopet are:
- Rule 1: On cast fishing rod equip Silverfish EXCEPT if Silverfish is already equipped.
- Rule 2: On cast fishing rod equip Bal EXCEPT if Bal is already equipped.
A minimum of 48,000 ⸕ Mining Speed is required to instamine mithril ore. A base 8,500 ⸕ Mining Speed is needed.
HotM Tree
It is recommended to have a minimum of 7.7m mithril powder and 7.4m gemstone powder. This is to max out the Efficient Miner, Mining Speed 1 and Seasoned Mineman perks, and the Powder Buff and Mining Speed 2 perks.
Routes
As with most mining methods, a route is necessary to mine efficiently, and waypoints can be seen below.
Coal Mining
Coal is an ore found very commonly in the Crystal Hollows. Coal mining is a method that utilizes huge routes in the ⏣ Magma Fields and is very ping dependent.
Requirements
- [Lv100]
Bal Pet (Preferably LEGENDARY) - 3/4
Divan's Armor
Mineral Boots
A minimum of 1800 ⸕ Mining Speed is required to instamine coal ore. A base 7500 ⸕ Mining Speed is needed in the Magma Fields to instamine Hard Stone while falling.
HotM Tree
The Heart of the Mountain tree used for Coal mining should have the following powder splits:
- Efficient Miner 60-80
- Mole 71
- Efficient Miner 100
- Mole 190
It is recommended to have a minimum of 4.2m mithril powder and 4m gemstone powder to start off. All fortune perks should be maxed, and the remaining powder should be put into efficient miner.
Tips
- Muscle memory is your best friend, the less you think about going to the next waypoint the better.
- Use Coleweight ordered waypoints, Skytils waypoints can clutter your screen so you won't see where to go next.
- Always instasell your
Enchanted Coal, sell order isn't worth the time. - Use Etherwarp to go up, jumping is just downtime.
Crimson Isle Techniques
The following methods take place on the ⏣ Crimson Isle.
Quartz Mining
Quartz is a white ore found on the Crimson Isle. It is not a very common mining method, although it does make quite a sizeable amount of coins, at around 30-40m/h, although this is dependent on the current bazaar prices. It is also often used by Ironman players for the Terminator crafting recipe.
Requirements
- [Lv100]
Scatha Pet (Any rarity, but EPIC+ is preferable) - Any Mining armor
Mineral Boots- Any Drill/Gemstone Gauntlet
HotM Tree
The Heart of the Mountain tree used for Quartz mining is the same as dillo mining, as it only requires fortune due to the Quartz ore speed cap being very low. For the powder and powder splits, it is recommended to have 3m/3.7m powder to start off. All fortune perks should be maxed, and the remaining powder should be put into efficient miner.
Method
For Quartz mining, the route that should be used are these 3 waypoints:
- -436, 57, -662
- -419, 57, -696
- -440, 57, -687
You should circle around these 3 waypoints and mine all the Quartz veins there.
As for the mobs, you can either kill them using any weapon that can kill them quickly, or you can use an Aspect of the Dragons to remove them from the veins. Right click abilities do not aggro the magma cubes.
Opal Mining
Opal is a white Gemstone that spawns in veins in the ⏣ Smoldering Tomb area of the Crimson Isle. Opal mining isn't a very common mining method that is used, but can still make respectable amounts of coins (20-30,000,000 coins an hour, although this is dependent on the current bazaar prices). This method is often not recommended due to the insane amount of lag in the Crimson Isle.
Requirements
- [Lv100]
Scatha Pet (Any rarity, but EPIC+ is preferable) - Any Mining armor
- Any Drill/Gemstone Gauntlet
HotM Tree
The Heart of the Mountain tree used for Opal mining is the same as any other manual mining. The powder requirements are also the same, being 4m powder of both types.
Method
The method for mining opal is quite similar to any manual mining method, with the only difference being no setup time. This can be useful if you don't have time to set up a dillo route.
To neutralize damage from the blazes that spawn in the Smoldering Tomb, you can use a method with the
Re-heated Gummy Polar Bear:
- Consume a Gummy
- Spawn a T1 Blaze Slayer boss.
- After its spawn animation finishes, go to your island.
- Go back to the Smoldering Tomb and blazes shouldn't attack you!
Alternatively, you can use a Moody Grappleshot to pull blazes away from where you are mining or use an
Aspect of the Dragons to yeet the blazes away.
Route
Unlike a lot of mining methods, Opal does not require setting up a route. Just run around the Smoldering Tomb and mine the Opal veins.
