Techniques

Base Material Choice

Effective grinding for Alchemy XP usually require purchasing a large amount of a cost-effective base material through the Bazaar. There are a few options for this base material that can buy the most XP with coins:

Additional Materials

Additionally, you can add  Enchanted Glowstone Dust or  Enchanted Glowstone to the potions to increase their tier by 2 or 3, respectively.

With the XP amount only accounting the first brewing ingredient, this upgrade cannot increase the Alchemy XP. However, increasing the tier can greatly increase its NPC resell value. With the increase greater than the cost for the upgrade, the overall cost can be reduced.

Brewing Session

During a brewing session:

1. Place down several rows of 64  Brewing Stands.
2. Fill in each and every brewing stands with the base bottles.
3. Place the chosen base material to each and every brewing stand.
4. Place the enchanted glowstone to each and every brewing stand.

Bingo

Aiming at a shorter term goal of Level 20 with time limit, with no access to player economy (the Auction House, the Bazaar), it can be optimal to obtain a more viable material that is cost-effective. Options are:

Ironman, Stranded

In ♲ Ironman or ☀ Stranded modes, with no access to player economy (the Auction House, the Bazaar), players have to gather relevant resources for brewing with the following methods:

• Using a sugar cane farm setup and by collecting sugar cane
• Using a mining setup and by collecting enchanted gold block
• Using a Sugar Cane Minion or a Gold Minion

Auto-brewing

The method of brewing using hoppers, known as auto-brewing, was made popular because much fewer manual interactions with the brewing stand are required.

This method consisted of funneling materials into brewing stands using hoppers, and collecting the potion at the brewing stands when brewing is complete. This method works because the Alchemy XP was added when the player collects from the stand.
